Microsoft and Acid2

Robert Scoble has done a pretty good job of changing my perception of Microsoft. The new transparent Microsoft has a downside though, I expect more from them. Let’s talk Acid2.

Robert Scoble has done a pretty good job of changing my perception of Microsoft. The new transparent Microsoft has a downside though, I expect more from them. Specifically I’d like to hear some comment on the Acid2 test on the ie blog.

Before MS opened up, I’d simply have assumed that microsoft was deliberately ignoring the test and was perhaps even considering introducing new ‘features’ to make it even harder for web developers to support non-IE browsers.

Unlike some of the more insane people online, I know that passing Acid2 will be a lot of work, and it will probably take a lot of people and a long time. Even if MS came out today and said “IE will pass the Acid2 test”, it would probably be included in a post-longhorn release. However that’s no reason not to try.

While they’re at it, perhaps they could be as open and honest as Dave Hyatt of Apple has been. His frequent posts showing safari’s progress have been great. We get to see screenshots of the problems, honest assesments of the bugs that he encounters and gradual improvements as the bugs get fixed. Come to think of it, this is more transparent than I’ve seen from the Mozilla foundation. The only Acid2 mentions I’ve seen on Planet Mozilla are Daves!.

That’s pretty amazing really Apple is being more transparent than the other browser makers. Think about that for a second, Apple “no-comment” Computers being more transparent than someone.

Wow.

So how about it IE Bloggers, care to commit to passing the acid2 test? Feel like openly blogging your progress?
